Farm School - Chickens

Farm School at Violette Hill Hay Farm

Farm School is a hands-on, immersive experience designed to connect children with nature, animals, and the rhythm of farm life. Each week, kids dive into the fascinating world of farming, learning about a variety of animals and gaining valuable knowledge through exploration and practical activities.

What Makes Farm School Special:

Each class focuses on a different animal or aspect of farm life, ensuring that no two sessions are ever the same. Even if a topic repeats, the lessons evolve, offering deeper insights, new projects, and fresh experiences to keep every visit unique.

Structured for Learning and Fun:

- **Animal Interaction:** Students spend time working directly with animals, learning proper care, handling, and feeding techniques. From cuddling baby bunnies to leading ponies, they’ll gain confidence and build meaningful connections with the animals.

- **Hands-On Lessons:** Each week features a one-hour in-depth lesson, combining science, care techniques, and fun activities. The focus might include grooming, creating enrichment for the animals, or even observing behavior to understand their needs better.

- **Student-Led Projects:** Students have the chance to choose animals to work with and engage in small, ongoing projects like building enrichment toys, documenting progress, or helping to create better spaces for the animals.

- **Teamwork and Discussion:** Classes start with group discussions about what’s happening on the farm that week. This helps foster a sense of community and encourages teamwork as students share their observations and ideas.

What Kids Get Out of Farm School:

- **Practical Skills:** From caring for animals to understanding sustainable farming practices, kids learn the basics of farm life and develop valuable hands-on skills.

- **Problem-Solving:** Through projects and discussions, students build critical thinking and problem-solving skills as they tackle real challenges faced on the farm.

- **Confidence and Responsibility:** Taking care of animals fosters responsibility and helps students gain confidence in their abilities. They’ll also experience the rewards of nurturing living creatures.

- **Connection to Nature:** In a world dominated by screens, Farm School provides kids with a chance to get outdoors, engage with nature, and develop a deep appreciation for the environment.

Flexibility to Explore:

Students can choose to work closely with a specific animal over time, observing and participating in its care and training. If any materials or tools are needed for a specific project or animal, let us know in advance, and we’ll ensure they’re ready for class.

Class Structure:

- 15 minutes of free exploration time to settle in and observe the animals.

- 15 minutes of group discussion about the farm’s weekly happenings.

- 1 hour of guided animal science lessons or hands-on projects.

- 30 minutes of free time to make new friends, revisit favorite animals, or reflect on the day.

Whether your child is a budding farmer or simply loves animals, Farm School offers a one-of-a-kind experience filled with fun, growth, and discovery. Sign up today to begin the adventure!
