Who we are
At Violette Hill Hay Farm, we focus on creating hands-on experiences where visitors can meet and interact with animals while learning about farming. It’s not just about fun—it’s about connecting with the animals, understanding their care, and helping small farmers. Our collective of small farmers brings their own animals, allowing guests to meet the people behind the farms. Every interaction helps support these local farmers in their passion, allowing them to keep their hobby farms going.
We’re not just about farming; we’re about creating memories, learning experiences, and a deeper connection with the world around us. Whether you’re coming to one of our events, taking part in our educational programs, or just visiting to meet the animals, we’re excited to have you be a part of our farm’s story.
Our Roots
The name "Violette Hill" holds a special place in our hearts, honoring a rich family legacy. My grandmother, Rita Violette, was born in the 1920s, and her family owned a vegetable farm on a picturesque hilltop in Massachusetts. After marrying my grandfather they moved two farms down but continued the tradition of farming, focusing on vegetables.
When my father came of age, he began raising dairy heifers alongside other animals, and the family farm expanded. My siblings and I were fortunate to grow up on this farm, living with our grandparents and continuing the tradition of farming. We spent our days raising animals, making and selling hay, and proudly showing our livestock in 4H.
However, in 2004, we faced a significant change. The land around us had become less farm-friendly, leading us to sell the family farm. Although we moved to a nearby town to continue farming, the connection to our family’s roots remained strong. Eventually, we relocated to Florida, where we continue to nurture our passion for farming, always cherishing the memories of our hilltop farm and the generations of hard work that shaped our family’s story.
We’re not just about farming; we’re about creating memories, learning experiences, and a deeper connection with the world around us. Whether you’re coming to one of our events, taking part in our educational programs, or just visiting to meet the animals, we’re excited to have you be a part of our farm’s story.
