What is Farm School?
Farm School at Violette Hill Hay Farm offers a unique, hands-on immersive learning experience designed for children of all ages to engage with farm animals and the agricultural world. Each week brings new, practical lessons on farm life and animal care, while helping children learn valuable skills, build confidence, and enjoy the outdoors. Our engaging, flexible approach ensures every class is a fun and educational adventure!

We offer 2 unique 12-week programs:
Animal Husbandry Program: Level 1 offers a hands-on introduction to farm life! Over the course of 12 weeks, students will explore the basics of farm animals and agricultural practices in a fun and interactive environment. Students will spend a lot of time in the barn, pasture, or other areas on the farm, interacting directly with animals. They will get to practice what they've learned in the lesson through activities like animal feeding, grooming, and observing animal behaviors. With games, labs, and engaging lessons, each class is designed to be exciting and educational. This is a beginner-level program that focuses on the basics of farm animals and farming. No prior experience is necessary—just a curiosity and love for animals!
Animal Showmanship Program: Level 2
The program is designed for returning students or beginners ready to go deeper into the world of farm animals. Over the course of 12 weeks, students will choose one animal to focus on and build a relationship through hands-on care, handling, grooming, and learning basic animal husbandry and showmanship skills. By working with the same animal each week, students will develop confidence, learn the animal’s unique personality, and gain deeper understanding of species-specific care. Students will explore daily care routines, grooming, safe handling, health checks, and basic training techniques. Throughout the program, students will also prepare their animal for a friendly farm “show” during the final week, where they will demonstrate what they’ve learned.
